Mission

To support the Rosedale Center for girls by raising funds for a new van, in order to transport students, teachers and volunteers to its many programs.

Facts on the Ground

Education levels

In the Bronx, 28.4% of the population lives below the poverty line, and over 40% of adults aged 16 are illiterate. To stop the vicious cycle of poverty, the Rosedale Center offers many educational programs for young girls in the South Bronx; these programs include one-on-one tutoring, exam preparation courses, classes in extracurricular activities such as art, cooking, music, computer skills and more.

Rosedale's programs

Rosedale's programs instill a sense of personal worth by developing students' talents, character, spirit of service, and by strengthening academic skills and work habits through individualized attention.

During summer vacations, Rosedale offers a Summer Achievement Program for students in grades 4 to 9, and offers a Job Training Program for high-school students.  Both these summer programs offer girls an excellent opportunity to learn from diverse and renown scholars, and gain real-world experience in the workplace. Virtually all students graduate from high school and over 90% enter college.

The need for a new van

Roughly 62 teachers and volunteers rely on transportation from the van; roughly 50 students do, too. The current van is over 12 years old and has over 120,000 miles on it.

Without a van, Rosedale’s students who participate in academic tutoring, individual mentoring, music and job training programs would be unable to attend. Rosedale’s programs have proven to help girls and young women in the South Bronx grow in character and become capable of making wise and independent choices.

Where We're Going

We are trying to raise $35,000 so that Rosedale can buy a new van because Rosedale’s current vehicle needs help. Click here to learn more about the Rosedale Center for girls, “where girls become young women of tomorrow.”

What's New

We are well on our way of reaching our goal! We are continuing to raise funds so that Rosedale can get that van. Click here to donate.
