American Initiatives has partnered with Colegio Montefalco in Jonacatepec, Morelos, which for almost 60 years has provided educational opportunities to women and girls in a largely rural area. The school was not far from the earthquake’s epicenter, and sustained significant damage. The adjacent church, which serves the local community, is partially destroyed. Many of the homes of the students and their families are destroyed or unsafe.  

Colegio Montefalco is one of leaders and a focal point in their community and can mobilize local volunteers, saving time and expense in meeting the needs of the local population. 

We believe that empowering and supporting local initiatives, run by local individuals, is the most effective way of promoting lasting development. We want to help them rebuild their community and their lives.
